2012-06/19-22 - Upper Peninsula, Michigan
We traveled to Keweenaw Peninsula at the northwest part of Michigan to visit friends in Hancock - Paul and Cathy Leach - we had made in Florida. They took us on a tour of the copper country that is bordered by Lake Superior. Hancock was Cathy's home town, and Paul obtained his university degrees from Michigan Tech in Houghton which is just across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. The area was once a source of many copper mines with miner towns supporting them. The once thriving metropolises are now much smaller towns. The copper ore crushing and smelting factilities are now either museums or decaying skeletons. These photos are a sampling of the sights seen.
